Shipping Restrictions
When
sending any parcel abroad, it is important that you make yourself aware of all
the rules and regulations, including shipping restrictions for your destination
country. While some countries have very lax rules regarding what you can and
cannot send, others are stricter and it is important to be aware of these
restrictions before sending anything abroad.
Prohibited
Products
RAND
Logistics can provide some advice concerning prohibited or restricted products,
however, it is always best if you refer to the Swiss Post website where
required. Prohibited products when sending parcels to Switzerland include
vegetable products, live trees and other plants, bulbs, cut flowers and
ornamental foliage inclusive as well as potatoes of non-European origin.
Other items that are prohibited include beverages,
spirits, vinegar, absinthe and all imitations, explosives, pyrotechnic
products, and propaganda material likely to endanger either the internal or
external security of the State. Miniature wireless transmitters, otherwise
known as 'mini-spies' are prohibited by Switzerland's country mailing
conditions, as are radar detectors. If they are found within a package, they
will be confiscated and handed over to the relevant authority.
Restricted
Products
All
products listed below are permitted only with the relevant documentation,
including an import licence issued by the Federal Veterinary Office, CH?3087
LIEBEFELD (Telefax (+41 31) 970 85 22)
Restricted items for delivery to Switzerland include live animals such as bees, amphibians, crustaceans, mammals (except domestic cats, guinea pigs, golden hamsters and mice and rats intended for use in laboratories or as food). Animal products and raw products including skins, bristles, antlers, claws and bones from all African and Asian countries are also restricted.
The import
of birds (excluding canaries), fish (excluding ornamental fish) and reptiles is
also restricted. Domesticated cats must include a veterinary certificate
documenting that the animals were vaccinated against rabies at least 30 days in
advance before crossing the frontier, and live carrier pigeons are permitted
for import only if a special licence is carried (Federal Army Communications
Office, CH?3003 BERNE, and of the Federal Veterinary Office, CH?3097
LIEBEFELD.)
When sending parcels to Switzerland, it is important that an
invoice in duplicate is provided for all personal shipments valued at $300 or
more, and for all commercial shipments regardless of value. These invoices can
be affixed to the outside of the parcel, or they can be enclosed with the PS
Form 2976-E with the customs declaration. If you have any queries or concerns,
it is recommended that you contact your local Customer Service Advisor to
receive more detailed information on shipping restrictions.
